Stormfront Publishing (formerly Bluewater Comics) is proud to present their latest biography comic this month, Orbit: The Cast of Doctor Who Volume 2. The sequel to the sold out comic book will be released this week.
Art by Jon Stanicek with Ward Vaughn, Chris Canibano and written by Michael Frizell, the 24 page coming book will be $3.99 for both the print and digital versions. A bonus cover by famed artist Graham Hill is also available.
The writer of volume 2, Michael Frizell, calls the show, One of the most inventive science fiction series ever broadcast and marvels at the, interesting and often incongruous visuals that make the show work.
Writing the script to volume 2 proved a challenge for Frizell, a freelance writer and academic at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. This was the fourth script I ever wrote for the publisher, and I’m happy they chose a strong artist who could enhance my words. I wrote the script almost two years ago, and I’m anxious to see how fans of this cult television show react to what I can only describe as a love letter to the actors who’ve assumed the mantle of a worldwide icon, Frizell said.
Doctor Who debuted on the BBC in 1963 and was played by William Hartnell. When Hartnell decided to leave the role, it was then decided the Doctor could regenerate his appearance into another actor. Since then, over 11 actors have played the Doctor. Volume 2 features snippets of the life stories of Colin Baker, Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Christopher Eccleston, and David Tennant. Frizell found the research daunting but fascinating. I found that most of the actors were as heroic in real life as the character they portrayed on the screen. Their unique backgrounds fascinated me, as many of the men I wrote about in this volume did not originally set out to be actors. I think their unique life experiences translate to the screen in way that continue to fascinate fans of Dr. Who’s adventures,” he said.
Stormfront is a multifaceted multimedia production company with the mission of delivering dynamic storytelling in a variety of forms by developing graphic and literary fiction and nonfiction, audio, film, and more, and biography comics are important to President and Publisher Darren Davis continued. Comics can promote literacy, said Davis. Once, I was a reluctant reader, but comic books fired my imagination, the combination of striking visuals and succinct narration compelled me to learn to read. About Dr. Who, Davis states, There were so many fine actors who played the role of the time traveler; we wanted to highlight the careers of a handful of the actors in each volume.
The Orbit series was launched in 2010 and serves as a pop culture companion to Stormfront Publishings successful Female Force, Political Power, and Fame series. The biography comic form allows Stormfronts talented writers to delve into the history of certain newsworthy figures and explore the past, which shaped them. Stormfront Publishings biographical comic books have been featured on CNN, Politico, Roll Call, The Today Show, FOX News, and in People Magazine among thousands of others.
