Happy National Puppy Day {March 23rd}! Happiness, Charles Schulz famously observed, is a warm puppy. And on this day we turn our attention not just to how cuddly our favorite furballs are, but rather to bring awareness to promote adoption and proper care while educating the public about the horrors of puppy mills.
In honor of the festival a canine cuteness, take a look at one of our books from our Young Reader Series, Puppy Sister amzn.to/1RzrHgM
We created this mini-series in partnership with it’s author S. E. Hinton You may remember Ms Hinton as the genius behind some of the best loved young adult books like the Outsiders, Rumblefish and Tex, but with Puppy Sister she created a touching family story. Nick and his parents get more than they bargained for when their newly adopted puppy, Aleasha, decides she’ll have more fun with her new “family” if she becomes human, too. So begins a laugh-out-loud adventure told from Aleasha’s point of view, about her transformation from puppy to girl.
On a personal side note–as to the power of puppies–when my niece and nephew were small children, they were terrified of dogs. So my brother assumed they just needed a dog to not only address the “fear,” but to add one more sibling to the family. They went to a local shelter and found Marvel (yes, isn’t the name great!?) and this gentle giant a lab/shepherd mix–became their loving companion, best bud, fiercest protector, playmate and occasional pillow until he quietly passed away last year at the age of 15. So yes, puppies DO make an impact, and puppies DO make a difference!
