TRUMP'S JOURNEY TO THE WHITE HOUSE CHRONICLED IN NEW COMIC BOOK

The 2016 election cycle has proven to be one of the most interesting – and most divisive – in history. Amidst the chaos of a crowded field of hopeful Republicans, media mogul Donald J. Trump declared his candidacy for president of the United States. One by one, his opponents fell to the will of the voters who see Mister Trump as the savior of a country where the American dream seems broken and unattainable. Does Donald Trump have the clout to become the next president of the United States?
Written by Michael Frizell and featuring art by Nathan Webb, “Donald Trump: The Road to the White House” chronicles the story of the early days of the Trump campaign as seen through the eyes of an undecided voter in a red state. This 25-page sequential art account of the presidential bid of Donald Trump will be released on November 2 and serves as a sequel to the popular “Political Power: Donald Trump” comic book published in 2015 by Storm Entertainment.
Darren Davis, Storm Entertainment’s publisher and chief creative force, asks that the writers working for his company adhere to the mandate that the books skew positive while offering factual information in an entertaining way. “It is my hope that readers come away with a sense of the richness of the lives of our subjects. I was once a reluctant reader, and I found early-on that comic books engaged me in ways other mediums didn’t.”
“It’s different than other scripts I’ve written for Storm,” said Frizell from his office at Missouri State University in Springfield. “Researching his life and ensuring I had well-documented facts from which to draw became paramount.” The comic book format proved to be a challenge when crafting the story. “Much has been written about Trump’s run already. My task as the writer of creative nonfiction comic books is to present my subject in an entertaining manner while attending to the spirit of the truth of a moment I couldn’t have witnessed,” said Frizell. “Getting his voice right was important, too. I want the characters to sound real.”
Nathan Webb of WE66 Illustration, a UK-based company, was thrilled to illustrate the script. “Working on this comic has been a series of firsts for me,” said Webb. “It’s my first political comic, the first time I’ve penciled inked and colored an entire comic, and my first American comic.” For Webb, the work grew into a family affair. “My favorite first has to my collaboration with my mother-in-law, Lesley O’Brien, who is a very talented oil painter and portrait artist.” Her work can be seen on one of the two covers available for this issue. “Thank you, Lesley, I hope this is the first of many collaborations!”
Frizell praised artist Webb for his storytelling technique. “Nathan captured the emotions I wanted to convey in the story, humanizing the scenes in ways that I’m sure will delight our readers,” he said. “It’s clear that he is an excellent storyteller in his own right.”
The “Political Power: series serves as a companion to Storm Entertainment’s successful “Female Force,” “Tribute,” “Orbit,” and “Fame” imprints of creative nonfiction comic books. The biography comic form allows Storm’s talented writers to delve into the history of certain newsworthy figures and explore the past which shaped them. Storm Entertainment’s biographical comic books have been featured on CNN, Politico, Roll Call, The Today Show, FOX News, and in People Magazine among thousands of others. “Comics promote literacy,” said publisher Davis. “It’s my hope that in addition to fans of the candidate that younger readers will learn something about how our political process works.”
